Joint Medical Store was established in 1979 as a joint venture of the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) and the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB). Although set up initially as a service unit for channeling relief supplies to health facilities belonging to the Protestant and Catholic churches. JMS over the years, gradually developed into a not-for–profit wholesale enterprise, procuring, storing and selling over 2000 products available ex-stock, including pharmaceuticals, medical and surgical sundries, equipment and instruments as well as laboratory supplies.

Organisation
JMS has a lean structure designed to offer the most effective service to its customers. It is composed of a Board of Trustees, AGM and Board of Directors, that oversee the management of the organisation plus a Management Team that performs the day to day management of the organisations affairs.
Facilities
JMS boasts of two ultra modern purpose built medical supplies warehouses located in the serene Kampala surburb of Nsambya that is also home to many notable organisations such as US Embassy, UCMB, CRS, Cardinal Nsubuga Leadership Training Centre, etc. The facility is installed with among others; cold storage facilities, training facilities, information technology infrastructure to mention but a few.
JMS Customers
JMS has more than 1,000 clients who buy regularly. These include the church founded health facilities under UCMB and UPMB, national and international NGOs, covering various health programs in Uganda and neighboring countries, government health units, private clinics and hospitals, retail pharmacies and schools. From the Financial Year 2003-2004 onwards JMS has procured and supplied goods worth more than 20 billion Uganda Shillings (USD 12.5 million). More than one third has been supplied to church founded health facilities. International NGOs and foreign customers have bought almost a quarter of the total sales, whereas Ugandan Government units accounts for about 17%. The remaining 15% has been sold to private providers.
